When you change course to avoid a collision, how should you do it?
- Early and boldly, so the other boater can see it
- At the last moment with a slight turn
- By drifting slowly away from the track
- Only after the other boat sounds its horn
Explanation: Avoiding action must be positive and made in plenty of time. Small, late or hesitant changes can be missed by the other boater and may make things worse.
Over how many degrees does a white stern light shine?
- 135 degrees, centred on the stern
- 225 degrees, centred on the bow
- 360 degrees, all around
- 112.5 degrees, on each side
Explanation: The stern light covers 135°, the masthead light 225° ahead, and each sidelight 112.5°.
What is the stern?
- The back of the boat
- The front of the boat
- The right side
- The keel
Explanation: The stern (aft) is the back of the boat.
